I am a product designer in Nairobi with nine years in digital product design, after seven years in brand, packaging and marketing design. I am used to starting without a finished brief and usually without much time. There is nearly always a commercial constraint underneath, a budget or a business model the design has to fit. I have usually been the only designer on the team, running the work from discovery through to developer handoff.

My work spans fintech, proptech, edtech, ecommerce, logistics and social impact. I move between industries comfortably because the core problem rarely changes. Take something complex, work out who it is really for, and make it usable. The domain changes. The process does not.

Most of my recent work is fintech across East Africa. At Black Swan, a Tanzanian AI fintech, I designed Manka, a B2B credit intelligence tool that lets lenders assess borrowers with no formal credit history. It cut credit analysis from three hours to two minutes, and over 30 microfinance banks now use it. I built the design system behind it, then extended the same infrastructure to Kopagari, a consumer vehicle financing platform. Kopagari reached 8,000 users in three months and produced 2,000 loan applications. That is a 25% application rate on a document-heavy financial product.

At Lockwood Technology I led UX for Malipopay, a payment gateway covering mobile money, invoicing and merchant dashboards. At Malsery I led end-to-end design across more than 40 products, including a mobile investment platform that grew from 3,000 to 14,000 users in its first month.

AI is part of my daily design workflow. I use Claude and ChatGPT for research, ideation, information architecture and pressure-testing flows before I commit to high-fidelity work. But I am deliberate about where it stops. Discovery is where deciding what is actually worth building matters more than building it quickly.
